Even when I had just started making mashups a year ago, I knew I wanted to make fun tracks to mark the spookiest of all holidays, Halloween! I did a couple last year, one Rocky Horror track I love, one rap v rap, TikTok hit v Addams Family track that no-one liked but me and one pop v Ghostbusters megamash which is too OOK to even be excused with Bootie Mashup’s signature DBDC or ‘Drunk Bitches Don’t Care’. This year I’ve gone all out with a full 13-track Halloween album, ranging from classic horror themes mashed up with modern pop hits to 50s calypso combined with 90s punk and beyond! TRACK COMMENTARY
1. Keep On Running From Michael Myers (The Spencer Davis Group x John Carpenter)
The track that started it all! My wife and I were listening to a Northern Soul playlist while cleaning the house and the idea of how sinister the Spencer Davis Group song could sound came to me. I’m so glad it worked!
2. Bring A Nightmare To My Life (Evanescence x DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince)
Thank god for officially released instrumentals! Fun fact, the video for Nightmare on My Street was considered lost for the longest time until Jazzy Jeff uploaded the version I used for the video to his YouTube channel.
3. Story of the Creature From the Black Lagoon (Lord Melody x Social Distortion)
I finished the artwork for the album before I’d finished all the tracks and my wife pointed out that I didn’t have a track for the Gill Man, even though he was the cover star. We found this EXCELLENT Calypso track recorded 3 years after the original movie and I knew I HAD to mash it up.
4. Lavender Town Beach Bodies (Drowning Pool x Louie Zong)
