It all started with a trip to see ABBA Voyage in London. I was inspired by the new life ABBA’s songs were given when the studio vocals were accompanied by brand-new live instrumentation. I also knew the mashup community could get SO much crazier and more creative.
ABBA may be legends, but their back catalogue is oddly undermashed. This is mostly due to a lack of leaked stems, raw vocals, or clean instrumentals. A couple of years ago Bootie Mashup put together a collection of the best ABBA mashups produced up to that point, (and I gathered my own submissions into the EP “Gold Plated”) but even that left a chunk of notable ABBA tracks unrepresented, simply due to lack of stems.
Now, to paraphase the Six-Million-Dollar Man, we have the technology! Thanks to machine learning, AI and a lot of passionate people working on open-source solutions, we have the power to create our own usable ABBA vocals and instrumentals like never before!
Initially considered as another collaboration between IamJstncrdble and myself in the style of Mashupland, I instead opened the doors of the iWillBattle Discord channel for the first time and welcomed in a crack team of bootleggers to help make a dent in ABBA‘s hefty history.
So, in the classic Bastard Pop style, I give you the debut iWillBattle & Friends Present project: ABBAstard!
